In Singapore, an In-Principle Approval (IPA) is a document issued by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to approve an applicant for various work passes such as the Employment Pass, S Pass, Work Permit, and others. The IPA grants preliminary approval and allowing the applicant to enter Singapore and complete any additional requirements, such as medical checkup, attending the Settling-in Programme (SIP) or Onboard programme. The validity of the IPA typically lasts for a set period, after which you need to extend it if more time is required.
How to Extend the Validity of the IPA?
It is essential to understand that extension for IPA is not automatic. If the IPA’s validity period is about to expire and you need more time, you have to extend the IPA. This action can only be done by employer or appointed employment agent, on behalf of the applicant.
Here's how to submit a request to extend the IPA:
1. Visit the Dedicated eServices
Depending on the pass type of candidate, employer needs to visit the respective eServices such as myMOM Portal or WP Online. Corppass access is required to log in and proceed with the extension request.
2. Submit the Extension Request
Once logged in to myMOM Portal, navigate the quick menu and you will able to find request to extend In-Principle Approval validity from the drop down list. For WP Online, you will straight away find the extend worker's IPA from the menu on your left. Follow the steps to submit a request to extend the IPA. Make sure to complete all the necessary fields correctly and provide any required documents.
3. Wait for Outcome Notification and Print the Extended IPA Letter
If the extension is approved, employer will receive a notification regarding the outcome. Employer can print out the extended IPA letter from the eServices earlier. The updated IPA will reflect the extended validity period and indicate a new expiry date clearly.
Common Questions Related to IPA Extension

Conclusion
In conclusion, ensuring the timely extension of an In-Principle Approval (IPA) is crucial for both employers and applicants to avoid disruptions in obtaining the work pass. By adhering to the prescribed procedures and submitting the extension request within the required timeframe, employers can facilitate a smooth continuation of the applicant's journey in fulfilling all necessary requirements. It is important to note that the IPA can only be extended once, making it essential to manage the process efficiently and proactively.
